We are seeking a dynamic Communications Manager to join our team (full-time). This position is crucial in shaping and conveying our association's message to diverse stakeholders, including members, the media, governmental bodies, and the general public. The ideal candidate will possess a proven track record in strategic communications, particularly within the non-profit or trade association sectors.

Exemplary Duties/Responsibilities

  • Strategic Communication: Work with AANC staff and affiliated associations’ leadership to develop and implement comprehensive communication strategies that align with the association's goals and objectives.
  • Media Relations: Work with AANC’s Executive Director and the leadership of affiliate member associations to develop a comprehensive media relations program across North Carolina. Help build and maintain relationships with journalists, and secure media coverage to enhance the association's visibility and reputation.
  • Content Creation: Coordinate the production of high-quality content for various channels, including press releases, newsletters, social media, and the association's website.
  • Public Affairs: Coordinate with the government affairs team to communicate legislative and regulatory updates to members and the public.
  • Member Engagement: Develop and execute communication plans to engage and inform members about AANC’s and local affiliate associations’ activities, events, and benefits.
  • Crisis Communication: Work with appropriate AANC staff members and volunteers to develop a crisis communication plan for AANC and its local affiliate association members. Manage communication efforts during crises, ensuring accurate and timely information is disseminated.
  • Event Support: Assist in promoting and managing communication for association events, including conferences, webinars, and member meetings.
  • Brand Management: Ensure consistent and effective branding across all communication platforms.

Minimum Employment Standards

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field from accredited College/University.
  2. Minimum of three years of professional experience in communications or public relations, preferably within a non-profit or trade association environment.
  3. Strong writing, design, and verbal communication skills.
  4. Proficiency with various communications tools including social media platforms, email marketing software, virtual meeting software, and more.
  5. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team and membership base.
  6. Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines. Excellent organizational and project management skills.
  7. Must be willing and able to travel occasionally within the state and to national conferences as required.
