Tell us about your career:
I started in our industry about 24 years ago. I worked in a different profession at my full-time job and had a college loan to pay off after graduating from college. I decided to get a part-time Leasing Consultant job working on the weekends to help with paying off that loan. I loved it! After working as a part-time Leasing Consultant for about a year, my supervisor approached me about applying for the open full-time leasing position. I knew that I loved this industry and decided to go for it!
I have been so lucky to be surrounded by the smartest and best people in this industry. After working as a Community Manager for years, I progressed to a Marketing Director position. This position allowed me to express my creative side. However, I missed the team interaction and decided to go for a Regional Manager position. I have been a Regional with Blue Ridge Companies for over eight years. I'm so appreciative to work for such a great company that invests in the education of its employees and makes a positive impact in the communities they serve.
What advice do you have for someone just starting in your field:
Surround yourself with intelligent people in the industry and look for your niche. Never give up on what you want to achieve. Be thankful for the struggles you go through; they make you stronger, wiser, and humble. Don't let those struggles break you. Let them make you! More importantly, life is short so enjoy the journey!
