Tell us about your career:
After graduating community college in 2011 with a certificate in HVAC, I took a job as a Service Technician for a Blue Ridge property in Mississippi. At that time, the Service Manager knew that he'd be leaving in a year or two, so my cross-training began almost immediately. When he left about a year later, I took over the role of Service Manager. It wasn't long before I found a passion for helping others realize their career goals and helping them to grow into their best selves, so I enrolled in online courses toward a bachelor's degree in human capital development. Now, I've found my way hundreds of miles from home to the Human Resources team for Blue Ridge Companies. My role now is to develop, implement, and oversee the use of recruitment initiatives and to manage our hiring process, including pre-employment screening and new-hire onboarding.
What advice do you have for someone just starting in your field:
Don't focus on failure, but embrace it and learn from it. Know that failure is a natural part of growth, and that you're a better person because of it.
