Tell us about your career:
I began my property management journey in 2006 as an Assistant Manager at a large apartment community in Greensboro, NC. Like many, I “fell” into the industry after a close friend that worked at an apartment community suggested I apply for an opportunity. With a background in banking, I was terrified at trying something completely different and changing career paths. I am forever grateful for taking the chance on something new and discovering an industry that I absolutely love! I have taken every opportunity to grow and embraced several different roles throughout my career including property manager, area manager, regional manager, director of marketing and client relations, and now VP of Property Management.
The journey has been challenging, exciting, and humbling. I worked hard getting my CAM and CAPS designations, and my NC Broker license. There is always more to learn, and the best way to always move forward. I have served on the board of directors at PTAA and enjoy staying connected with other industry professionals.
What advice do you have for someone just starting in your field:
Communication is so important. Talking (and listening) to your teams, residents, owners, supplier partners, competitors, and industry peers are the key to success. Don’t be afraid to ask for help or advice, our industry is full of amazing people that have a variety of knowledge and experience to share. Understanding what is expected of you, and being able to tell others what you expect of them will help things run smoothly. Our industry is all about connection and relationships!
