Tell us about your career:
I stumbled into the industry by chance and never looked back. Like most, I got my foot in the door by knowing someone already in the business. My cousin, Audrey, was a community manager for years and knew that I was interested in a career change. She informed me that a mutual family friend of ours, Danielle, had an open leasing consultant position at her property and that I would be a great fit. When Audrey asked me, I was attending community college and working full-time at Chick-fil-A as a team leader. I had absolutely no clue what a leasing consultant was or what they did but decided to interview anyway. And I am SO glad that I did! Nearly five years later I have gone from leasing consultant to community manager, met and married my husband (he was a maintenance technician at my first property), and developed more friendships than I can count. I love what I do and cannot imagine where I would be in life had I not said yes to that interview years ago.
What advice do you have for someone just starting in your field:
As a growing manager, I am constantly looking for ways to further my education so that I can become the best version of myself by serving others. For anyone just starting in the field, I encourage you to take advantage of all of the amazing classes and events offered through your local apartment association! The multi-family industry is constantly changing and adapting. Continuing your education and being involved is the best way to grow and stay up to date.
