Tell us about your career:
Kathy Holland began her career in property management in 2006, serving in the student housing industry in Charlotte, NC. Kathy was hired as the Assistant Manager in June 2010 at The Reserve at Jacksonville Commons in Jacksonville, NC. Kathy received her NALP certification in May 2011; Kathy also received the Positive Impact award for Management and Marketing Team Member of the Year for 2012. She then went on to attend The NAA conference in June, 2013 that took place in San Diego, CA. Early in March 2013, Kathy received her CAM certification. In February of 2014, Kathy became a mentor for Blue Ridge Companies. Kathy received the Positive Impact Award for Mentor of the Year in 2014.
Kathy also graduated from college in 2015 with an Associate's Degree in Business Administration/Concentration in Marketing and Retailing. She attended the NAA conference in June 2015 that took place in Las Vegas, NV. Kathy was promoted to Community Manager with BRC in January 2016. In 2017, the community Kathy manages won property of the year. The entire team was sent to NAA. Since then Kathy has completed all stages of the EPIC leadership program with Blue Ridge Companies and received her certification from the Disney Institute for Leadership Excellence.
What advice do you have for someone just starting in your field:
My advice for someone getting started in property management is to understand how valuable they are. Property Management is not only leasing apartments, processing paperwork, and handling maintenance requests. It is about the residents you serve, the sense of community felt, and customer service. Assisting someone with their new home is a privilege, and knowing the vital role you will play can be extremely rewarding!
