Tell us about your career:
Back in 2011, I was given the opportunity to become a leasing consultant at a large student housing property in Greensboro. From there, I moved up the ranks fairly by latching onto a mentor and learning everything like a sponge. Since 2018, I've been able to work throughout the Southeast as a Regional Manager overseeing a diverse portfolio of stabilized, rehab properties, lease-ups, and student housing communities. In 2019, I won Regional Manager of the Year from the Piedmont Triad Apartment Association.
The best experience I have had to date was the opportunity to meet and mentor so many people to pay the "debt" back that grew me to be who I am today. The best way I have found to effectively lead is to lead by example. I'm never too shy to roll my sleeves up to pick up trash, get some rain boots to unclog a drain from sprinkler room flooding, or sit at the leasing consultant's desk so my managers are able to process invoices.
What advice do you have for someone just starting in your field:
The best advice I can give is to be sure to find a person who impresses you and latch onto them as a mentee. A mentor and leader are what's going to give you the tools you need to succeed.
