Tell us about your career:

I have a diverse background in customer service. I worked retail, serving/bartending, and hospitality at hotels such as Gaylord Opryland Hotel in Nashville and Ballantyne Resort in Charlotte. While my degree is in Culinary Arts and Business Management, I found myself desiring a steady income with a better work/life balance.

I began leasing in 2013 and worked for a smaller management company for nearly six years, working my way up to Property Manager, and most recently being promoted to Area Vice President. I started with RAM Partners five years ago and have found a work home I can be proud of. I strive to improve all of my communities and leave them better than I found them.

With RAM Partners, I won Social Media Excellence in 2022 and Property Manager in December 2023. When you work for a management group this large and receive recognition for your hard work and achievements it helps set a continuous trajectory of growth and continuous improvement.

What advice do you have for someone just starting in your field:

Property Management can be extremely fulfilling if you really care about your property and product but here are a few tips and tricks I've learned:

  • Think more like an owner and less like a renter.
  • No task is too big or too small despite your role. Be a team player and help when you are able, but don't lose sight of your primary role priorities.
  • Communicate often and effectively with your team.
  • Don't sweat the small stuff. Residents will push your buttons and create conflict but remain calm and remember the big picture, offer resolution, and demand the respect you give to them.

A peer made a comment in one of my sessions at the AANC Conference that really resonated with me. "If you constantly seek balance you will only find frustration". So much about life and work is flexibility. Sometimes you need to be more focused on work and sometimes you need to be more focused on home. Knowing when to be flexible and where to focus your time is far more valuable that seeking true balance.
