Tell us about your career:
I began my career in the multifamily industry with no experience as a temporary employee following the COVID shutdown. After about three months with the temp agency, the company hired me for a permanent role as a leasing agent at a sister property, where I developed my skills for four months before they sold, prompting my return to the previous property as an Assistant Manager.
For the past three years I've thrived in this role, embracing responsibilities in leasing, day-to-day tasks, and resident care within our two-person office. I am part of a program within our company to help onboard and train new employees. Looking ahead, I aspire to transition to marketing or a leasing manager position, drawn to the dynamic interactions and opportunities within these roles.
What advice do you have for someone just starting in your field:
MAKE CONNECTIONS - with your residents, prospects, vendors, team, competitors, and within the association. Without the connections I’ve made, I wouldn’t be where I am or doing what I do. They have been vital to my journey and success. If your property isn’t the right fit for a prospect, it may be a perfect fit for someone they know. If one of your comps doesn’t have availability, you may. If you need vendors, your network may have some recommendations. Within the industry, the connections you make will open door after door for you.
Anything else you would like to share:
At the same time as I was working full time as a leasing agent, I was living out of a car. You never know who you may be helping and how you may be changing their life.
