Tell us about your career:
I have spent 32 years in the multifamily housing industry, beginning as a Resident Assistant at NC State University and progressing to a weekend leasing consultant after graduation. My career has included various roles such as software support, conversion specialist, and trainer, which have helped me gain a comprehensive understanding of operations and effectively support my teams. I have a deep passion for this industry. After an eight-year break to be at home when my boys were born, I was able to seamlessly re-enter the workforce. The multifamily industry is particularly supportive of women, offering unique challenges and rewarding experiences that I believe are unparalleled in other careers.
What advice do you have for someone just starting in your field:
Property management has roles suited to diverse strengths worth exploring. Seek out a mentor with significant experience to guide you along your career path. The job comes with its share of rewarding and tough days—working closely with people on matters related to their homes means you profoundly affect their lives and their families.
